Alone

Life has become particularly stressful again. I noticed that a lot of my usual routines have started falling off (eg. meal prep, exercising, reading, regular reviews) and that I was being a lot more moody than usual.

I’m trying different things to tackle the stress now. I’ve tried meditating while doing yoga, I’ve gone back to painting my nails, and I’ve been talking to some friends about maybe taking a trip out to a day spa.

Perhaps most notably, the other night I decided to go on a ~14 km walk around the Vancouver Sea Wall without my headphones. It was a surprisingly refreshing walk; it felt like it had been ages since I’d last done any such activity alone. It was just several hours of me sorting through thoughts, focusing on my breathing, and admiring nature. I even got to watch a bunch of seals just peacefully swimming around on their backs.

I’m fortunately aware of my pattern of letting things drop when I’m feeling stressed out; it’s a good external indicator that I need to start looking out for myself more. And now that it’s back on my radar, I know to regularly look out for my stress levels, and take a break, go for a run, relax, etc. to manage them as needed.

And if y’all have any good ideas for de-stressing, please feel free to share them πŸ™‚

  1. Day spa/massage therapy sounds good. Maybe pet (cat) therapy too. I like talking to certain people. Have you been running recently?

    1. Yassss. I’ve never been to a spa before. Hopefully it’s a good opportunity to relax πŸ™‚

Yes, I should get a cat. I wish Cinnamon was more social 😹

    2. I went for short runs today and yesterday, but it’s nothing regular. I’m working to get back into it πŸ™ˆ
